Back in July 2005 I went to Lichtenvoorde to see Meat Loaf in action at the Arrow Rock Festival. As it turns out, that was the best show I’d seen him do is this decade. The show was tight, the band was as good as ever and mr. Loaf himself was in top form. Hell, he even played a song from the then upcoming Bat III album.
That song, “(It Hurts) Only When I Feel” was a mash-up of a new piece by Jim Steinman and an (then) relatively obscure song called “If It Ain’t Broke (Break It)“, and it if it would have made the album, I wouldn’t be talking about now. As you might know, the road to Bat III was paved with a legal dispute about the Bat Out of Hell trademark. Eventually, mr. Loaf and mr. Steinman settled out of court, and in the midst of all this, “Only When I Feel” got replaced by a stand-alone version of “Break It” which didn’t tickle me in a good way.
So, in honor of mr. Loaf’s 63rd birthday today, I present you with an excellent recording of “(It Hurts) Only When I Feel” (vbr mp3, 15MB, right click & save as…) (link expired) from the 2005 Arrow Rock Festival.
