Seen Live: Anneke, Krause & Tom

Yesterday I went to see Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-the Gathering, mighty fine solo work), Krause (electropop) and multi-instrumentalist Tom Pintens (formerly of Zita Swoon). And Dotan, the main act/other half of the double bill.

To start with Dotan, he was alright, I guess. To me, it felt like his brand of pop/rock-singer/songwriter-material lacked an edge. He and his band are fine musicians, but failed to excite me. The last song was nice though.

Anneke, Krause and Tom played an eclectic set that was pretty damn awesome. The set consisted of songs from each of the artists’ repertoire, arranged for this odd trio. For example, the original version of Anneke’s song Wonder is a slow piano-ballad, but here they increased the tempo and added a bunch of beats. It’s hard to say anything useful about the rest of the songs, because “Wonder” was the only song I was really familiar with. However, I really liked the song “Marco Borsato”. This love song about someone stuck in one of his schmaltzy songs is an instant hit. Unfortunately I can’t find a video of that, so here is one of the other highlights, Krause’s Soaring Through the Starlight:
